The guitar is assessed to ensure that it will benefit from a ‘Full’ refret. It may only need a ‘Partial’ refret, replacing only a few worn frets. Or may only require a fret dress and set-up.

The strings are then removed and where possible the neck will be removed from the guitar. If the neck cannot be removed, then the body of the guitar will be masked and protected before work commences.

Next the old frets are removed. This has to be done with great care to avoid as much damage to the fingerboard as possible.   The slots will then need to be cleaned, and any fingerboard 'chips' filled.

The guitars fingerboard is now sanded ‘Level’ and prepared for installation of the new frets

The fret wire is put into a fret bender designed to bend it to the correct radius after which it is cut into suitable lengths. The frets are then placed in the slots and pressed or hammered to a firm fit.

The frets are trimmed, and the ends bevelled, to an angle of, 35 degrees and filed flush with the finger board. .

The new frets are now levelled and re-profiled or ‘Crowned' and then polished.

The Fingerboard is then, cleaned and oiled

The guitar will then be re-strung and 'set up' before being returned to the customer.

Please note; we only use high quality 18 percent nickel Fret wire from the USA
